In addition, the number of fiber access (FTTH/O) ports reached 1.052 billion, accounting for 96% of Internet broadband access ports, and the number of 10G PON ports with Gigabit network service capabilities reached 18.8 million. It can be seen that my country’s network infrastructure is constantly developing, and more and more homes and enterprises have reached the gigabit network speed.
However, as living standards continue to improve and become more intelligent, online office/meeting/work interaction/online shopping/life/study will have higher requirements for network service quality, and users will continue to have higher requirements for network speed. Raise certain expectations. “So it is still necessary to continuously increase the access rate, and realize 10G,” Mao Qian pointed out.
To achieve 1G/10 Gigabit home access on a larger scale, not only EPON and GPON are not competent, but also the coverage of 10GEPON and XGPON is not large enough, and the efficiency is low. Therefore, a higher-speed PON is required, and the evolution to 50G PON or even 100G PON is a must The inevitable trend. According to Mao Qian, judging from the current development trend, the industry is more inclined to single-wavelength 50G PON, which supports various technologies of 10G broadband. Mainstream suppliers of domestic communications already have the capability of 50G PON, and some suppliers have also realized 100G PON, providing the basic conditions for 10G home access.
Talking about the technology of Gigabit and 10 Gigabit home access in detail, Mao Qian said that as early as the 2017 Shenzhen Optical Expo, he had proposed the combination of passive optical network and active optical network. After the access rate required by a single user increases to a certain level (for example, greater than 10G), the active optical network may be more convenient, easier to upgrade and lower cost than the passive optical network to provide higher rates; at the Shenzhen Optical Expo in 2021 On OptiNet, he even suggested that users with bandwidth of 10 Gigabit and above should consider the scheme of exclusive bandwidth; on OptiNet in 2022, he recommended that exclusive bandwidth can be implemented in a variety of ways: exclusive bandwidth for XG/XGS-PON users, P2P optical fiber exclusive, NG-PON2 wavelength exclusive, etc.
“Now it seems that the exclusive wavelength scheme has more cost and technical advantages, and it will become a development trend. Of course, various bandwidth exclusive schemes have their own advantages and disadvantages, and you can choose according to local conditions.” Mao Qian said.
