Corning Partners With Nokia And Others To Provide FTTH Kit Services For Small Operators

"The United States is in the midst of a boom in FTTH deployment that will peak in 2024-2026 and continue throughout the decade," Strategy Analytics analyst Dan Grossman wrote on the company's website. "It seems like every weekday an operator announces the start of building an FTTH network in a certain community."

Analyst Jeff Heynen agrees. "The build-out of fiber optic infrastructure is generating more new subscribers and more CPEs with advanced Wi-Fi technology, as service providers look to differentiate their services in an increasingly competitive market. As a result, we have raised our Long-term forecasts for broadband and home networking."

Specifically, Dell'Oro recently raised its global revenue forecast for passive optical network (PON) fiber optic equipment to $13.6 billion in 2026. The company attributed this growth in part to the deployment of XGS-PON in North America, Europe and other regions. XGS-PON is an updated PON standard capable of supporting 10G symmetrical data transmission.

Corning has partnered with Nokia and equipment distributor Wesco to launch a new FTTH deployment tool to help small and medium broadband operators gain a head start in the competition with large operators. This product can help operators quickly realize the FTTH deployment of 1000 households.

This product of Corning is based on the "Network in a Box" kit released by Nokia in June this year, including active equipment such as OLT, ONT, and home WiFi. Corning has added passive wiring products, including FlexNAP plug-in board, optical fiber, etc., to support the deployment of all optical fibers from the junction box to the user's home.

In the past few years, the longest wait time for FTTH construction in North America was close to 24 months, and Corning is already working hard to increase production capacity. In August, they announced plans for a new fiber optic cable plant in Arizona. At present, Corning said that the supply time of various pre-terminated optical cables and passive accessories products has returned to the level before the epidemic.

In this tripartite collaboration, Wesco's role is to provide logistics and distribution services. Headquartered in Pennsylvania, the company has 43 locations throughout the United States as well as in Europe and Latin America.

Corning said that in the competition with large operators, small operators are always the most vulnerable. Helping these small operators obtain product offerings and implement network deployments in an easy way is a unique market opportunity for Corning.
